  • What does Byline Me in Beta mean?

We have opened up our new platform for early testing and feedbacks when new features are added every week as we go along.

The main functionality works, and you can sell and buy content right now, but you may expect some bugs and changes. We are very happy if you test Bylineme at this stage, and let us know your thoughts.

We are building up a global test user base with 100 journalists and content producers, and 100 buyers (publishers and brands). Please let us know if you are interested to become a test user, and contribute with ideas and local knowlege. All test users will be awarded our special badge “Bylineme expert", giving you extra credit down the road when Bylineme gain traction.

Please send us an email to support@bylineme.com with your contact information. When accepted as a test user, you will join our closed Facebook group where we share ideas, and information about progress and plans for the official launch, scheduled October 2015.

  • What is Bylineme?

Bylineme is a global user-driven marketplace for content as articles, videos, and images.

  • Who is Bylineme for?

    1. Journalists and content producers who want to manage and distribute their content to clients worldwide.

    2. Publishers, bloggers, organizations and companies looking for content to their magazines, brochures, content marketing, the web, newspapers, etc.

  • Who can use Bylineme?

Everyone who makes stories, articles, videos and pictures can use Bylineme to manage and sell their content worldwide.

Journalists, freelancers, writers, storytellers, photographers, video producers, newspapers, magazines, organizations, companies and publishers are the target group of Bylineme.

  • What kind of material can I sell on Bylineme?

You can sell any stories, articles, videos, and pictures. It’s up to you to decide, as long as you think your stuff may be of interest to anyone. Some examples:

    - A travel article from Rome
    - A video article from the revolt in Ukraine
    - Testing a new running shoes
    - Listicles
    - An article of health and safety onboard in oil rigs
    - Fishing in Antarctica
    - Ten best jogging routes in London
    - Student life in Oxford
    The list is endless:)

  • Any restrictions?

Not many, but remember it is your responsibility to make sure that you have legitimate ownership of the material and do not violate any copyrights. Bylineme takes no responsibility for the content itself.

    Our ethical rules prohibit:

    - Porn and pornographic material
    - Racist, discriminatory and fascist material

  • Is there any guide on what kind of articles the publishers are looking for?

Yes, and this is a smart way to get started. On Bylineme the publishers tell us what kind of article they want for the near future. Follow this requests and you are one step closer to get your content published. Remember it’s up to you to make articles that stand out from the crowd. Don’t give up if you do not get your first article or video sold. Keep working and Bylineme will become a steady source of income.

P.S. This feature being implemented August 2015.

  • How do I set a fair price on my material?

It's up to you to decide what price you want for your work. But figure out the right price can sometimes be tricky. That’s why we have developed a bidding feature (launches July).

  • What kind of language can I use on Bylineme?

You can use whatever languages you want, but only Latin letters languages (not Chinese, Arabic etc) being supported in the beginning. Our two-step translation feature will give local content a global reach.

  • Can I sell my articles to multiple publishers?

Yes you can! By selling you material with different rights of use.

The publisher can choose to buy your material at a higher price for the exclusive right to use it worldwide. But remember most publishers only want the right to use your material in specific countries. Publishers will then buy the right to use your material in ex France to a lower price. You will then be able to sell your stuff multiple times in different parts of the world.

  • Can I upload free material to Bylineme?

Absolutely, you just set the price to zero. You still have control of who is using your material because users have to sign the copyright agreement before they download and use your material.

Setting the price to zero can sometimes be a smart way to get some of your first customers, or to spread your material fast to a broad audience.

Since the price is zero there is no cost (there are of course no transactions fees). It’s like distributing a free app in the Apples App Store. A smart way to distribute your stuff for free to a worldwide audience of publishers!

Remember it’s still your responsibility that you have the lawful copyright to the material, although it is free.

  • I have a full time job for a newspaper; can I use Bylineme for part time projects?

You sure can! Anyone can use Bylineme to distribute their content as long as they have the lawful copyrights to the material, and follow our ethical rules.

  • How can I be sure that nobody just download my material and use it for free?

Bylineme have made strict routines to prevent publishers to just download material and use it for free. Before they can access your material, they have to confirm your copyright by accepting our legal terms and commit to your price and delivery terms. If they break our legal terms, they can be prosecuted.

You are normally much better protected against theft and misuse of your Copyrights by using Bylineme than on your own. Together we are strong, alone you have only your resources.

  • How can I be sure to maintain copyright to my material?

When a potential customer finds the descriptions on the material interesting, they have to register themselves, a valid credit card and accept our legal terms before they can access your material. Uploading the material onto Bylineme is a smart way to document your copyright to the pieces.

  • What does it cost to use Bylineme?

Bylineme takes 10% commission of the sellers price. The buyer get charged for the cost of the third party (PayPal and Stripe) payment transactions fee. This in normally between 3-5%.

The basic principle is “no cure, no pay”. So if you don’t sell anything, it doesn’t cost you a dime! Using Bylineme to manage your content including storage is free.

  • What is the upload limits for videos and images

Max size for a video file is 2 GB. Max size for an image files is 50 MB.

  • How to share revenue with multiple contributors

When there are multiple contributors to some work, for example, one journalist writes the text, and a photographer delivers the images it is up to them self to agree upon who the share the revenue.

Whoever, due to the respect for the time used in sales and networking we recommend on a split, 75% to the person making the sales, and 25% to the contributor.
